The physiotherapy services provided by AURA - on the Notre Dame de Bon Secours site - are part of its therapeutic education mission and concern both hospitalized patients (long and short stay) and ambulatory patients treated with hemodialysis.

The AURA Notre Dame de Bon Secours site has a dedicated room for rehabilitation (parallel bars, bicycles, etc.)

Physiotherapy involves three types of actions:

• Functional rehabilitation,

• Pain relief,

• Support for patients on their return home.

Functional rehabilitation

The rehabilitation sessions include help with ambulation, passive and active mobilization, prevention of muscle wasting, restoration of exercise capacity aimed at functional rehabilitation to enable patients to recover sufficient autonomy to facilitate their return home, or help them to remain in their homes.

These rehabilitation sessions are for :

• hospitalized patients, mainly after orthopedic procedures, and for neurological and/or respiratory disorders,

• and also for ambulatory patients treated with hemodialysis, when they attend for sessions, for disabling and painful joint disorders developing in the context of their chronic disease.

Pain relief

Use of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to relieve neuropathic pain (joint pain, sciatica, neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy, viral, etc.) in addition to analgesic medications.

Support for patients on their return home

This support facilitates their return home for patients by developing their autonomy. The role of the AURA physiotherapist is also to coordinate the various team members who will be taking over care management.

Thus :

• The AURA physiotherapist supplies the private practice physiotherapist with all the necessary information for managing the patient’s treatment in the context of organized continuity of care.

• The AURA physiotherapist undertakes the necessary procedures to find an occupational therapist to visit their homes and organize the return of patients in optimal conditions.

• The AURA physiotherapist contacts suppliers to find the most appropriate equipment for patients (wheelchair, walking frame, crutches, etc.). These technical aids are used by patients when treated in AURA units and then transfer to their homes is coordinated by the AURA physiotherapists.
